When humans first developed written communication, it was done by hand. Sticks scraped in dirt. Mud smeared on walls. Eventually the crude figures became symbols representing words. And language was invented. Something about berries smeared on paper becoming feathers dipped in ink. Renaissance plays and shit. Then Guttenberg lead to even more uniform letters. Turning into ornate displays of text. Computers digitized what were once painstakingly created by hand and transformed into perfectly calculated combinations of code. And then we came in and messed it all up.
